Before we get to that, let’s talk about what it is. Fraxel is the brand name for Fraxel Laser, a technology that is non-ablative in that is does not remove skin tissue at the skin’s surface. Tiny columns penetrate deep into the skin, creating a micro-injury and the skin responds by increasing collagen production. Since the device we use is Fraxel Dual, depending on the wave length (it has two that can treat different skin layers) we can also significantly improve common skin concerns including pigmentation, and skin texture, usually caused from sun damage.
Fortified Fraxel Facial is a little different. This clever adaptation using the Fraxel Laser is the brainchild of Dr. Michalak, who recognized that not everyone needs a standard Fraxel treatment.
The energy settings are lowered, then several passes are made over your skin, creating tiny micro channels. Microchannels make the skin more permeable so we can then enhance the treatment by applying topical antioxidants. A second step is an option to add topical growth factors, helping collagen stimulation and healing. The great thing about this approach is it allows for treatments to be customized. It also costs less per treatment.
Why Patients Love This Treatment
- You can see a difference in your first treatment.
- There is more than one benefit; improved texture and a glow to the skin are often the most satisfying.
- It’s quick. The treatment takes under one hour, so that it can be squeezed into a busy work week.
- It’s customized. With the addition of the two antioxidants, and growth factor, we can deliver ingredients much deeper into the skin, so there is more value and benefit than without. Meaning more collagen stimulation, pigment reduction, and wound healing.
- Minimal downtime. Fraxel, in general has minimal downtime for any treatment. There is no need to take time off work and recovery looks like a sunburn, taking about a week for the entire process.
If skin rejuvenation is on your agenda, Fortified Fraxel is a good choice if you feel like you need more, plateaued with your skin care or peels, and have mild to moderate sun damage. This can also be safely done on other areas like the neck, hands, or chest. Patients that have more significant sun damage, deeper wrinkles, or scars may still need a full Fraxel, or a combination of treatments for best results.
